Short CV

Mathias Nehler is head of the Laboratories of Geotechnologies and Seismic Observation at the International Geothermal Centre at Hochschule Bochum since 2017. The currently ongoing PhD thesis is titled “Evaluation of porosity and permeability estimates for rock samples based on X-ray micro-tomography” and is focused on the experimental determination of petrophysical rock properties using different laboratory methods. He finished his undergraduate in Applied Geosciences at the Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany) with the main subjects engineering geology and hydrology in 2012.

Major research topics are hydraulic rock properties and fluid flow in fractured and porous rocks for reservoir characterization, especially in geothermal applications. X-ray computed tomography and (automatic) image analysis represent further research activities. A strong background in geology, mineralogy and hydrothermal alteration widens the spectrum of interests.
