Short CV
Mandy is a senior scientist and scientific coordinator of the laboratories for Engineering Geology and Rock Mass Mechanics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. After having finished her doctorate in experimental geophysics in December 2011 at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Mandy has worked as a postdoctoral researcher and held a short-term postdoctoral fellowship at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, New York. In 2014, she started working as head of laboratories for geotechnologies and seismic observation at the International Geothermal Centre, Bochum University of Applied Sciences, where she received a trainee professorship for geotechnologies in 2017 before she started her position at Ruhr-Universität in May 2019.
Mandy’s research interests focus on the time-dependence of rock physical properties and the long-term mechanical behavior of rocks and rock mass considering thermo- and hydromechanical coupling phenomena. She applies laboratory and numerical methods for temporal upscaling of experimental observations to long-term applications, such as underground storage of thermal energy or nuclear waste disposal. Mandy is also involved in cross-disciplinary topics covering the application of digital methods for rock mass characterization including VR, methods for non-destructive testing, the application of geophysical field methods to archaeological problems or the use of the subsurface as spatial resource for new infrastructural applications. She is a member of the Commission on Rock Testing of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Geotechnik e. V. (German Geotechnical Society).
Mandy is married, has two children and likes building things.
