Short CV

Matthias is a research assistant and Ph.D. student at the University of Stuttgart in the group for Continuum Mechanics of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Steeb at the Institute of Applied Mechanics (CE). Focused on continuum and computational mechanics as well as fatigue analysis, he finished the M.Sc. program in Mechanical Engineering at Clausthal University of Technology in 2017. Before, he studied Aeronautical Engineering with special emphasis on Aircraft Design and Lightweight Structures at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences where he graduated in 2014 with a B.Eng. Further, he holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration & Economics from the FernUniversität in Hagen since 2020.

His main research interest is about experimental continuum mechanics of porous media and the link to numerical methods. He is in charge of the modular and flexible micro X-ray Computed Tomography System (µXRCT) as part of the Porous Media Lab at the Institute of Applied Mechanics (CE) and therefore, has extensive expertise and interest in µXRCT imaging. He is especially interested in the mechanical and hydromechanical investigation of unsaturated and fluid-saturated fracture networks and their behavior on macroscopic properties such as the attenuation of elastic wave propagation.
