Martin Balcewicz is a post-doctoral researcher in the Reservoir Engineering and Rock Physics group at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences. His research is focused on digital rock physics and the relationship between the properties of fractured and porous rocks and their scale dependence. Martin completed his Ph.D. in Geosciences at Ruhr-Universität Bochum in 2022, as well as his M.Sc. in 2019 and his B.Sc. in 2016.
In addition to his experience as a structural geologist in the field, Martin has developed skills in laboratory experiments and X-ray Computed Tomography (XRCT) in recent years. This allows him to select suitable samples for upcoming laboratory experiments and link these laboratory results with subsequent numerical modeling. To achieve this goal, Martin is developing a so-called digital twin, which assigns physical rock properties to individual material particles in a location-dependent volume.
